The woman in the Corsette and Crinoline skirt

The Spatial Implications of  women's forms of dress, exploring the corset and the Crinoline Skirt, the art and politics surrounding a woman’s body, it’s contortions, twists as it shrinks and deforms its occupant in space to fit the beauty standards of an 'Hour glass figure'.

A constant return in societies upheld morals of the shape and body aesthetic nature of a woman. The thin waist, the voluptuous breasts, curves and exaggerated bosom created by the male invention of a crinoline skirt as it's cage like wires in no dance for liberation leave the woman's abdomen to birth the ideals of a Venus fertility statue, to touch the soil and not to be seemly natural but displaced odd in its contrite nature at best. The female body as a highly contested space and the ability of women’s clothing to communicate societal ideals and the counteract performance of protest thereafter by woman. My explorations explore Tent making on the body, The Hijab and its Hybridization whilst looking at Arab springs and the systematic degradation of Egyptian women by the state.

Chicken Experiment exploring the concept of a corsette allowing a body to shrink in space

Conclusion:The corsette is a corsette because of the draw strings that allow a body to shrink in space

The corset if it is made to mould around the body without its draw strings
